Essex Installed Masters’ Council

On Monday 16th of May, four of us Surrey Cryptic Masons travelled to Essex where our District Grand Recorder, Ill.Comp. Terry Carpenter, was to take the Degree of Thrice Illustrious Master.

The Ceremony of the Silver Trowel was conducted at the Essex Installed Masters’ Council No. 211, held at the Southend Masonic Centre, Saxon Hall, Southend-on-Sea.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council There to support Terry were our District Grand Master, R.Ill.Comp. David Blackburn, and Ill.Comps Stephen Hall and Chris Eley.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council There to welcome us was the District Grand Master for Essex, R.Ill.Comp. Robert J Potts.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council Also at the meeting was the Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Province of Essex, Ill.Comp. Terry Sheern.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council A Council of Thrice Illustrious Masters was opened by the Thrice Illustrious Master/King David, R.Ill.Comp. Robert J Potts, who, along with his Officers, conferred the Degree of Thrice Illustrious Master on nine Candidates in an excellent manner.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council Afterwards the two District Grand Masters congratulated the Representative Candidate, Ill.Comp. John Finlay, who is the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Province of Essex.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council The Council of Thrice Illustrious Masters was closed and after a short break the Essex Installed Masters’ Council was opened in Due and Ancient Form. R.Ill.Comp. Robert Potts, District Grand Master, was declared the Thrice Illustrious Master for the ensuing year.

We then received a most interesting talk by the Thrice Illustrious Master, Ill.Comp. John Helliar, on ‘where did the treasure go?’. This talk certainly gave much food for thought as to the history and myths of the Knights Templars’ Treasure.

The Council was then closed and, after refreshments in the bar, we retired to the dining room where we had a splendid meal.

Essex Installed Masters’ Council In replying to his toast, the District Grand Master thanked all the members and guests for attending to make this a special day for the Essex Installed Masters’ Council.
