A visit to Birmingham
I attended the David Carr Hooker Council of the Ninth Arch at the Masonic Hall, Kings Heath, Birmingham, to see the Silver Trowel Ceremony.
The Council is under the District of Wyvern and caters for members of Wyvern and Warwickshire Districts. Receiving the Degree of Thrice Illustrious Master was R.Ill.Comp Roy Bedford. Roy has been a member of Chelsea Council No 72 since 1977.
Roy is a Past Deputy District Grand Master (2000 to 2007) and a Past Intendant General for the Red Cross in Surrey. He has just completed two years as the Grand Master Overseer in Mark Grand Lodge, a great achievement especially when you realise that Roy is now 90 years of age. He had moved away to Cheltenham around 2009 and continues very active membership in Wyvern.
Somehow, he missed out on a nomination for the Silver Trowel around the time of his move and when the Degree was introduced.
So, with the kind assistance of Ill. Comp Mike Saxon, the Wyvern District Recorder, we arranged to rectify the omission.
Roy and eight other candidates enjoyed a superb ceremony, well worth my trip up the M40.
Here is a photo of VW.Bro. Roy, Grand Master Overseer, at Mark Grand Lodge with VW.Bro. Chris Eley, Grand Junior Overseer, our Assistant District Grand Recorder.
